Hackalux began with a shared vision between two good friends, Sander and Marco, who, a few years ago, started questioning how much control we truly have over our own digital lives. In a rapidly changing world, shaped by political developments, geopolitical tensions, and growing environmental challenges, we believe it’s more important than ever to ask some fundamental questions:
Where is our private data stored? Who actually owns it? And who has access to it?
With both of us having extensive backgrounds in IT and cybersecurity, these aren’t just theoretical questions. They’re topics we deal with professionally every single day. Over time, we grew increasingly frustrated by the endless stream of news about data breaches, privacy violations, and organizations gaining access to personal information. Often without our knowledge, let alone our consent. We began to feel that technology, something originally intended to make our lives easier, was slowly turning into something that demanded more from us than it gave back.
Technology was supposed to serve us. Not the other way around.
And that was something we were no longer willing to simply accept. So, rather than continuing to rely entirely on platforms and providers we couldn’t fully trust, we decided to take matters into our own hands. We started building and managing our own digital infrastructure, learning, experimenting, and gradually moving services and data back under our own control.
And that's how Hackalux was born.
Today, Hackalux is our independent, privately managed digital platform for hosting, cloud storage, and other digital services. It’s a personal initiative, built on friendship, curiosity, and a shared passion for technology. We’re not trying to become the next big cloud provider. We’re simply creating a digital environment for ourselves and a small circle of trusted people, where privacy, security, independence, and creativity come first. Because we believe that true digital freedom starts with knowing where your data lives, understanding who controls it, and having the power to decide for yourself.
